Park History
Waltzing Waters Aquarama
Pine Island Road, Cape Coral, Florida
Opened: March 4, 1971 – April 30, 1982 • Bottlenose Dolphins (May 5, 1974 – 1981?)
After the closure of Cape Coral Gardens, the dolphin show relocated to Estero Bay in Ft. Myers Beach under the name “Port Dolphin” before a new pool was built in 1974. The first dolphin, Nosey, arrived on May 5, 1974 from Key West and was under the care of Jack Scarpuzzi (Louis Scarpuzzi Enterprises). A male dolphin arrived May 14, 1974, also from Key West, and had “been in captivity for several years”. At least one dolphin was captured by Gene Hamilton (Chris, 1975).
The dolphin pool measured “30 feet wide and 12 feet deep, holding 75,000 gallons”
In October 1980, Scarpuzzi sued Aquarama for a breach of contract but the park countered that Scarpuzzi negated the terms when he took his dolphin show to Canada in the summer of 1981. The dolphins died sometime during this period.
